There’s been a solid shift into winter fishing in the Eastern Sierras. A few light storms have the mountains covered in white, and the access to the Upper O / Hot creek is still good for the time being. You can’t beat the backdrop, and the fishing has been super fun. No need to start super early, the bite turns on mid morning. Great time of year to go hunt down a big bow on the Upper, or catch the early afternoon hatch of BWO’s. On stormy / colder days head down the hill and have a blast nymphing for wild browns/ bows in the wild trout section of the lower O. Flows are around 90 cfs and great for wading into stuff that doesn’t get fished as hard. If you’re on the Upper O, try san Juans in red or pink, big Bird’s nests, Hare’s Ears, Lightning Bugs, Copper tigers… any large flashy attractor nymph in your box might get a look. Cover water… the fish are moving and definitely have certain spots they tend to stop and hold in. Hit us up if you want a hand getting the winter fishing dialed in!
